When you left, I said at last
I gave you twenty bucks for gas
It felt good to say goodbye
It felt good to hear you cry
You cried about a million tears
It was just music to my ears
You cried, I said cry some more
But I hated to see you go
As i watched your tail lights fade
I said “Now by god, now I’ve got it made”
I’ll find me another woman, maybe 2 or 3,
Who appreciates a good man like me
You cried, how the tears did fall, when
I said “I don’t love you (not now) if I ever did at all”
You cried, I set your suitcase by the door
But I hated to see you go
I scanned our photographs
Seems all we did was smile and laugh
I think of what I could’ve said
But I smiled and told you ‘go ahead and…
Cry, let the rain come down
I’ll feel much better with you not around
You cried, I said cry some more
But i hated to see you go
